DAVID LEWIS LLEWELLYN, JR. Biographical Notes David Llewellyn is a legal advocate, civil rights lawyer and law professor now practicing in Sacramento, California. He has a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of California at Los Angeles, the diplome from the International Institute for Human Rights, Strasbourg, France, a Master of Arts in English literature from the University of Tennessee, a B.A. from William Jennings Bryan College and has done graduate study at Dallas Theological Seminary.
Currently he is a visiting law professor at Chapman University School of Law, working with the Center for Constitutional Jurisprudence sponsored by the Claremont Institute. He was a founding member of the law faculty at Trinity Law School, Trinity International University, later serving as Dean, where he taught constitutional law, human rights, jurisprudence and legal advocacy courses. He has been a college English professor and has taught as an adjunct professor at Pepperdine Law School and William Jessup University. Formerly he was the founder, President and senior legal counsel for the Western Center for Law and Religious Freedom, a public interest law firm. He has presented papers in various forums and lectured in universities and law schools throughout the United States and in France, Switzerland, Indonesia and China (PRC). His work has been reported in a wide range of public media, including National Public Radio, C-SPAN, the New York Times, Newsweek, Christianity Today, and Focus on the Family.
He has a history of litigation and advocacy involving civil rights and public policy, primary focusing on constitutional rights and religious liberty. His publications include "Licensed To Kill: The Death With Dignity Initiative," in the Criminal Justice Journal; "America's Constitutional Covenant" in Man and State: Religion, Society and the Constitution (Hillsdale College Press) and "Freedom of Religion or Belief under International Humanitarian Law and International Criminal Law," in Facilitating Freedom of Religion or Belief: A Deskbook (Martinus Nijhoff Publishers). He has been featured on the cover of California Lawyer, the official magazine of the California State Bar Association, as "God’s Lawyer."
